It can be quite an experience and culture shock moving from one country to another, especially when they are drastically different in culture and even more so in weather. I had a new client, freshly moved to NYC from the Jamaica. Now, we are know how beautiful and tropical the Caribbean is - the sun shining, beaches, bright colors and an overall relaxed energy. This can make moving to a big city with a fluctuating climate intimidating for some.
My client wanted to transition her look from island style to city chic, but she also needed to do this on a budget.
In a case like this, I always recommend building a wardrobe with classic basics and then adding more trendy looks. Start with neutral tones before incorporating colors and prints. Another great tip is to shop the sales. You don’t have to substitute quality on a budget-friendly wallet if you shop smart.
We met in the city at one my favorite stores for quality classics at an affordable price point, Joe Fresh on 43rd and 5th Avenue. Their selections are always on trend for the season with colors and textures, but the silhouettes are predominantly timeless.
Check out the video of how I got my client ready to take on NYC with a new style and a lot more confidence. (P.S - The audio is a little low, which we will adjust for our next video)
I not only showed her how to style timeless pieces into multiple outfits on a budget but also how to enhance her body type with the right proportions, making her look slimmer and as she loves to put it “sexy”.
These are the pieces I mixed and matched to make 3 outfits at a total cost of just $280!! Click on item to purchase.
My favorite part of the process is seeing how my client’s personality evolved from being reserved and nervous to happy and confident. She is equipped and ready for her new life in New York City.
